Police: Father, Son Charged After Raid On Coram Home Turns Up Multitude Of Drugs

CORAM, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island father and son are jail after police said they ran a drug den out of a luxury apartment in an upscale neighborhood.

Joseph Fearon, 40, faces a long list of drug-related charges following a raid on his home in Coram on Friday. His 23-year-old son, Jasheme, was also arrested at his home in Middle Island, police said.

The raid at Fearon's home turned up 730 grams of cocaine, 318 grams of heroin, 36 grams of oxycodone, and $200,000 in cash, according to investigators.

Next door neighbor Judy and other neighbors were rattled by the sight of so many cops in their complex Friday morning, but now say they are relieved.

"There were cars coming and going constantly, it was very obvious that there was something going on but didn't belong here," Judy said. "Just glad it's not there anymore."

Suffolk County Police Commissioner Timothy Sini said the raid was conducted as part of a new initiative that allows the Precinct Special Operations Team to execute search warrants.

"It resulted in taking two very bad guys off the street," he said. "Everyone seems to be aware of a drug house in their neighborhood. This crosses socioeconomic barriers, this is low-income areas to very high-income areas, and that's a very important fact."

Sini said the initiative will ensure that the police department is more responsive to community concerns about known problem drug locations.

"People shouldn't have to go out and get their paper and see someone completely strung out getting their next fix at the neighbor's house," he said."That's unacceptable."

Detectives in the precincts need residents to tell them who is drug dealing and where, CBS2's Dave Carlin reported.

In addition to getting drugs and alleged dealers off the streets, the nine raids conducted since this campaign began has also recovered seven guns.
