NYPD: Officer Pushed Onto Subway Tracks While Trying To Stop Fare Beaters In Queens

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A New York City police officer was pushed onto the tracks at a Queens subway station while trying to stop a group of fare beaters over the weekend, police said.

It happened just after midnight Sunday at the Parsons-Archer Avenue subway station in Jamaica.

Two men and two women walked through the station's service gate to avoid paying the fare, police said.

When the officer and his partner tried to stop them, police said one of the men knocked the officer onto the track bed.

The officer's partner helped lift him out, but the suspects escaped.

The NYPD has released surveillance video of the suspects, who are all believed to be in their early 20s.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, visit the Crime Stoppers website, or text tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and enter TIP577.
