Yankees' Andrew Miller Tells WFAN That Winning Outweighs Yielding Closer Role To Chapman

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Yankees reliever Andrew Miller says he doesn't mind sharing the bullpen with a pair of other big-time pitchers if it means the team is moving closer to winning a World Series.

The lefty saved 36 games for the Bronx Bombers last season, but the team has already announced that the newly acquired Aroldis Chapman will replace him as closer.

Led by Miller, Chapman and Dellin Betances, the Yankees' bullpen figures to be among the best -- if not the best -- in the majors this season.

"Certainly they felt like more firepower can help us reach the goals, and if that's what it takes to get there, then I'm all for it," Miller told WFAN's Mike Francesa on Wednesday.

"I've told people all along that there's no resume that I'm building. I'm not worried about some sort of milestone or Hall of Fame case. I'm just trying to go out there and win, and I think at the end of my career, I'll appreciate the winning teams I was on and hopefully having some rings to look back on."

Chapman, whom the Cincinnati Reds traded to New York for four players in December, recorded 145 saves over the past four seasons and had a 1.63 ERA in 2015. His fastball has been clocked at a whopping 104 mph.

Betances, another flamethrower, has a 1.45 ERA over the past two seasons, making 144 appearances in that span.

And Miller had a 2.04 ERA in 2015.

For them to peacefully coexist, they must lay their egos aside. That at least appears to be no issue for Miller.

"Hopefully if we can kind of split up some of the innings a little bit and stay healthy and make it to the end, make it to the finish line in good shape, then it's going to be good for all of us," Miller said.
