Signal Problem At Penn Station Brings Delays, Cancellations To LIRR

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A signal problem at Penn Station snagged Long Island Rail Road trains during the Thursday evening rush -- and many riders were furious.

As of shortly before 6 p.m., westbound service on the Babylon and Ronkonkoma branches of the LIRR was suspended between Jamaica and Penn Station, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

There were also delays and cancellations on the eastbound side.

LIRR commuters took to Twitter in rage about the delays and cancellations Thursday afternoon. Some appealed directly to Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

The MTA was cross-honoring LIRR tickets on the E Train between the Sutphin-Archer station in Jamaica and Penn Station. Woodside westbound customers may take the No. 7 to 42nd Street-Times Square.
