2 Dead, 4 Injured In Separate Fires Just Blocks Away In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Two people are dead and four others injured after two fires erupted barely three blocks from each other in the Bronx.

The fires happened Saturday in homes near the West Farms and Parkchester neighborhoods.

The fires are not related and officials are working to determine the causes, according to authorities.

The first fire was reported around 3 a.m. at a home on Beach Avenue.

Police said a 60-year-old woman was found unconscious in the basement. She was pronounced dead at a hospital. Four other people were also hospitalized.

Three hours later, firefighters responded to another fire in a two-story apartment house on Guion Place.

Police said 26-year-old Carlos Villafane was pronounced dead at the scene. He was found severely burned on the second floor.
