Pilot Spots Drone 2,000 Feet Up While Approaching For Landing At Long Island Airport

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- The Suffolk County Police Department is investigating a drone incident near the Republic Airport Sunday morning.

According to a statement from the Federal Aviation Administration, the pilot of a Piper PA28 aircraft spotted a drone flying at an altitude of 2,000 feet six miles north of the Farmingdale airport.

The pilot saw the drone while he was approaching to land at Republic Airport.

The FAA notified the Suffolk County Police Department about the incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
