Let It Go: Disney's 'Frozen The Musical' Coming To Broadway In 2018

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Get ready, Frozen fans -- the hit Disney animated film is coming to Broadway.

Disney made the official announcement Tuesday on Twitter, saying the coveted 2013 film will be adapted into an all-new theatrical production slated for debut in Spring 2018.

The show will add to Disney's already robust Broadway repertoire, which includes "Aladdin" and "The Lion King."

The show will feature music and lyrics by songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, whose previous work includes credits on "Avenue Q" and "Book of Mormon."

According to a release from Disney, the show will be directed by Tony-Award-winner Alex Timbers, the man behind "Peter and the Starcatcher," ''The Pee-Wee Herman Show" and "Rocky."

Disney said casting for the show will be announced at a later date, with the pre-engagement show set to kick off in Summer 2017.

The 2013 film, starring Tony award winner and Long Island native Idina Menzel as Elsa and actress Kristen Bell, took home the Academy Award for 'Best Animated Film' and 'Best Original Song' in 2014.

In other Frozen news, Disney also announced a new Frozen-themed holiday special, set to air in 2017 during the holiday season.
