CBS2 Exclusive: Suspects Hook $21,000 In Designer Handbags In Queens Ceiling Burglary

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NYPD is looking for suspects who were caught on camera stealing around $21,000 in designer handbags by "fishing" from the ceiling at a store in Queens.

The burglars - the very definition of "brazen" - broke through a skylight to gain access to the second floor office above Bagriculture, of Forest Hills, CBS2's Tony Aiello reported.

After breaking through the ceiling, the suspects realized the goods were out of reach and re-entered the office through an opening in the ceiling behind the counter, where it was easier to retrieve the bags.

"They were just using tools and different things to hook them out and lift them through the ceiling," Anthony Velez, of Bagriculture, said. "The only way I can describe it is they're sneaky."

At one point, the burglars got greedy -- overreaching for a large bag on the side wall and sending it toppling to the floor.

"It's just sad to me that there are people out there that can't work hard on their own and have to take from people," Velez said.

Velez said he has since boosted security at the store, and hopes the long arm of the law will soon hook these handbag burglars.
