'Dead Husband Walking' Desperately Searching For Wife's Missing Clothes

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Manhattan man who calls himself a "dead husband walking" is on a desperate search for a bag of clothing.

Michael Farrah, 48, who lives in the Flatiron District, says $1,000 worth of his wife's clothes, that were supposed to go to the dry cleaners, were accidentally thrown out Monday.

Farrah said it was his 9-year-old son who made the honest mistake of putting the clothes out with the recycling because they were in a clear plastic bag.

"I asked him to take the bag downstairs and sure enough he took it downstairs, but when I got down there I saw him with no bag in his hands because he thought it was recycling," Farrah told 1010 WINS. "Somebody had picked it up along the way."

Farrah said his wife was understanding, but disappointed when he broke the news.

"I was a little bit in the dog house," Farrah said, adding that mostly his wife was concerned about their son. "He obviously was completely heartbroken, devastated that he had accidentally taken out the clothing."

He has posted fliers up in the neighborhood and is offering a $200 reward for their return.

"The person that took it wasn't doing anything wrong, they were kind of recycling clothes, they thought there was something there they could use, but hopefully they hear about it and contact us," Farrah said.

A picture of the flier was posted to Reddit.

It reads, "Please contact dead husband walking at 415-260-8496."
