CAUGHT ON VIDEO: Man Repeatedly Punches MTA Bus Driver In Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The NYPD wants your help finding a man caught on video assaulting a MTA bus driver in Brooklyn.

The incident took place aboard a B8 bus at around 6:15 p.m. on Jan. 29 at the corner of Nostrand Avenue and Avenue D.

The shocking video shows a man with dreadlocks throwing numerous punches at the driver, reaching around the security gate to attack him. The victim was hit repeatedly in the face.

The suspect then steps off the bus and appears to challenge the bus driver to step off the bus and fight.

The video starts with the punches, so it's unclear what happened before. But the victim, 62, told police the attack was completely unprovoked, and there was no argument before the attack.

People who take mass transit told CBS2's Alice Gainer they were horrified by the crime.

"That shouldn't be happening, not in New York City," said Roger Simonds.

"(Gainer: So this is shocking?) Yes! Most of the young people over here have respect," said another commuter.

Police said the suspect is in his 20s and about 5'9" tall.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). Spanish speakers can call 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
