Couples Brave Cold To Take Part In Surprise Proposals, Wedding Ceremonies On Valentine's Day

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Love was in the air in Times Square on Valentine's Day.

Couples braved the bitter cold to take part in surprise proposals and wedding ceremonies.

Rahul Jain brought Medha Gandhi to Times Square from Maplewood, New Jersey, to pop the question.

"She has visited this place many, many times and she really wanted to do this and this is the best way," Jain told CBS2's Ilana Gold.

Gandhi said she was shocked at the proposal.

"It's really amazing," she told CBS2.

Eight couples backed out of getting married Sunday in the frigid temperatures. However, the cold didn't stop newlyweds Katie and Jordan Abidin.

"I'm happy, I'm excited, I'm speechless with the cold," Jordan Abidin told CBS2.

The weather made this day even more memorable for the couple.

"If this isn't love, I don't know what is," Katie Abidin told CBS2.
