Giants' McAdoo Announces Coaching Staff

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Ben McAdoo's coaching staff includes a dozen holdovers from the Tom Coughlin era but eight new faces as well.

The Giants officially announced the coaching staff Tuesday, although many of the hires had previously been reported.

McAdoo actually takes exception to the term "holdovers." He says he made the decision whether to hire each coach on a case-by-case basis.

"This is a new staff," McAdoo said. "Nobody was retained, there were no holdovers; everyone was hired.

"You have a nice group of guys who I've worked with in the past, and then there's some I haven't worked with, and some I've admired from afar. There's a nice mix. We talked a lot about putting a staff together that fits, number one, that has great diversity, great personality, and great character, a staff of people who can teach the game. We feel we've done that."

As expected, former quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan was promoted to McAdoo's former role of offensive coordinator. Steve Spagnuolo was retained as defensive coordinator, and Tom Quinn remains special teams coordinator.

Also back are assistant offensive line coach Lunda Wells, tight ends coach Kevin Gilbride Jr., running backs coach Craig Johnson, offensive assistant Ryan Roeder, defensive assistant Rob Leonard, cornerbacks coach Tim Walton, safeties coach Dave Merritt, assistant strength and conditioning coach Markus Paul and performance manager Joe Danos.

Mike Solari will take over as offensive line coach. He most recently served as the Packers' assistant o-line coach and is a former Chiefs offensive coordinator.

New quarterbacks coach Frank Cignetti Jr. was the Rams' offensive coordinator last season and also served as Rutgers' offensive coordinator in 2011.

Wide receivers coach Adam Henry served in the same role with the 49ers in 2015. He also was Odell Beckham Jr.'s receivers coach at LSU.

New linebackers coach Bill McGovern spent the past three seasons coaching outside linebackers with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Defensive line coach Patrick Graham spent the past seven seasons on the New England Patriots' staff, most recently as linebackers coach.

Assistant defensive line coach Jeff Zgonina was a journeyman defensive tackle in the NFL from 1993-2009 and was an assistant coach for the Houston Texans.

Dwayne Stukes takes over as assistant special teams coordinator. He has previously coached for the Bears and Buccaneers.

And new strength and conditioning coach Aaron Wellman comes from Notre Dame.

McAdoo was hired as the Giants' head coach last month after Coughlin stepped down following four consecutive non-playoff seasons.
