Amtrak Now Welcoming Small Pets On Most Northeast Trains
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP)-- There is good news for Amtrak travelers hoping to bring their furry friends along for the ride.
Amtrak says it's expanding a pilot program permitting travelers to bring aboard small pets on many Northeast Corridor trains serving Boston, Philadelphia, New York, Washington and other cities.
The railroad announced Tuesday that it began allowing small dogs and cats to accompany their owners on most long-distance routes. Small pets will also be allowed on Acela Express high-speed trains on weekends only starting Saturday.
The company says bringing along your pet will cost you a $25 surcharge, and that pet and carrier weight can't exceed a combined 20 pounds.
Service animals will continue to ride for free.
