Cuomo Unsure Of MTA's Role In Brooklyn-Queens Streetcar Proposal

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Governor Andrew Cuomo is not offering any immediate cooperation with Mayor Bill de Blasio's proposed plan to build a trolley system connecting Brooklyn and Queens.

The above-ground waterfront trolley line would trail north-to-south along the western coastline of Brooklyn and Queens, starting in Astoria and ending in Sunset Park.

The line would run south through Ravenswood and Long Island City in Queens, and then continue into Brooklyn through Greenpoint, Williamsburg, the Navy Yard, Vinegar Hill, DUMBO, Downtown Brooklyn, Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill, Red Hook Gowanus and Suntet Park.

The total length would be approximately 16 miles along the East River waterfront.

De Blasio is hoping to connect the trolley with the Metropolitan Transit Authority, WCBS 880's Ginny Kosola reported.

"I don't know how it would be, I think it's a city project," Cuomo said.

Cuomo said he does not know enough about the project to make a decision on funding just yet.

"I don't know enough about the plan to make a decision, I don't think it has anything to do with the MTA as proposed," Cuomo said.

As for state funding, Cuomo said he believes it sounded like a city project.
