NYPD: Man Slashed After Leaving Jeans Shop In SoHo

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A man was slashed leaving a store in SoHo Thursday afternoon.

The 21-year-old man was leaving Supreme Jeans at 274 Lafayette St. near Prince Street around 2 p.m. when he was attacked.

The victim was rushed to New York Downtown Hospital with a slash wound to his right cheek. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The attacker fled on foot. So far, there has been no arrest and no weapon recovered, CBS2 reported.

A new clothing collection was just released at the popular skateboard and clothing store. Dozens of people who were waiting on line were witnesses to the crime.

"The amount of blood that just came out of it was unreal," said witness Joseph Kaehne.

Witnesses said there was some kind of altercation, possibly an attempted robbery, CBS2's Valerie Castro reported.

"He was sitting there just reminiscing, talking with friends and someone comes up to him and it looked like somebody cut his face right here. It looked like a razor blade," said Kaehne.

"It was like some controversy down here and next thing you know, you see him walking over here and he has blood all over his face and you can see that from the corner of his nose to almost his ear that his face was slashed open," said witness Devin Harris.

"Gushing blood across the street, dripping blood; walked all the way back there and then cops and ambulance came to assist him," said Kaehne.

Police sources said they believe the argument happened after the victim cut the line.

"Could have happened to any one of us really," said Harris.

The attack happened about eight blocks away from another slashing that occurred Wednesday night outside of the Silver Spurs restaurant on LaGuardia Place. Police are still searching for a suspect in that case.
