Police: Man Hijacks NJ Woman's Car, Speeds Away With Puppy In Vehicle

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. (CBSNewYork)-- In less than 20 seconds, a woman lost her car, her purse, and her precious puppy.

The woman left her car running for just a moment around 9:30 a.m. Friday when a man in a black hoodie spotted her Jeep Grand Cherokee, hopped in, and sped off down Edison Street in Bloomfield, New Jersey.

The victim said she is keeping her identity hidden, as she fears for her safety.

"Something that I love so much is just gone, that's just the worst part," the heartbroken woman told CBS2's Magdalena Doris. "I don't blame myself, I just really blame that person because if something doesn't belong to you, you just don't take it."

In those quick moments, the carjacker made off her 5-week-old Shih Tzu, Shade.

The victim is wearing the pup's tiny collar around her wrist as she waits for good news.

"I was hoping to put it back on him but hopefully, praying he comes back home," she said. "You can keep everything. I don't care. I don't want anything but my dog back," the woman said.

The victim told CBS2 she tracked her phone inside of her stolen car and that it was last in Bayonne, New Jersey.
