3 Injured After Cab Hits Light Pole In Central Park

NEW YORK (AP) -- Police say two women and a child were injured when a cab jumped a curb and hit a light pole, causing it to fall into Central Park.

Authorities say a cab driver told them he jumped the curb after swerving to avoid another cab that came into his lane on Fifth Avenue near 84th Street around 10 a.m. Sunday. He hit the pole, which fell into the park where a 41-year-old woman and a child were.

Police say the pole hit the woman, but the extent of her injuries was unclear. They had no information on the child. A 47-year-old woman in the cab suffered a head injury.

The Fire Department says one adult was in serious condition, while another woman and a minor were transported with minor injuries.
