Survey: Nearly Half Of NYers Argue With Neighbors About Turning Down The Volume

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- New Yorkers are sounding off in a new survey about their noisy neighbors.

As 1010 WINS' Al Jones reported, noise is part of city life but according to a survey conducted by Homes.com, nearly half of New Yorkers have battled their neighbors about the volume being too high.

Jorge was surprised it was only half.

"I live in a neighborhood in Brooklyn that everywhere is noisy. People have to keep quiet," he said, including his neighbor who blares the TV.

Dominique said in her building, it's music.

"People get loud, they play music," she said. "We're coming on to the summer -- yes, everyone does that, we're all human beings."

When her neighbors get too loud, Baby told Jones she gives them an ear-full.

"Yes, over there with the motorcycle; especially at night," she said.

But not Gabriel, who said he fell into the other half.

"Not me personally. I'm not one for confrontation, so even if it's a little loud it's not that big of a deal," he said.

The same survey found that about 34 percent of city residents don't talk to their neighbors.

"I lived there for 10 years, I didn't know the guy across the street from me went to grammar school with me," said Mike.

The survey also found that the Bronx was considered the least friendly borough. Nearly 4 in 10 surveyed said they would rather live anywhere else besides the Bronx and 93 percent felt the other boroughs offered a friendlier atmosphere, according to Homes.com.
