Deer Bolts Through Window At New Jersey Middle School

NORTH ARLINGTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork)-- Students and faculty at a school in New Jersey were startled after a deer bolted through a window and was loose in the school.

The one-year-old doe entered North Arlington Middle School through an unlocked window, NJ.com reported.

The deer was reportedly running around the neighborhood prior to making its way into the school.

"The deer bolted through this window," Oliver W. Stringham, superintendent of schools, was quoted by NJ.com. "It went through the office and definitely shocked our staff in the office. They acted remarkably."

Stringham said the principal and staff members called police. Bergen County Animal Control employees came to the rescue, where they sedated and removed the animal, NJ.com reported.

Officials say the deer was alone in a room with no windows until animal control officials arrived. The deer never came in contact with students, Stringham said.
