FDA Orders Black Box Warning For Contraceptive 'Essure' Following Continuing Problems

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Food and Drug Administration has ordered black box warning labels to be put on the Essure contraceptive implant.

It's the FDA's most serious warning, and it comes after continuing problems with the device.

Thousands of women have complained of pain, and unintended pregnancies after using it.

A support group for women damaged by the device want it off the market.
