Woman Found Slain In Middle Island Home; Man Later Dies Of Suspected Self-Inflicted Wounds

MIDDLE ISLAND, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Police are investigating what appears to be a murder-suicide inside a Suffolk County home.

A 54-year-old woman -- identified by Suffolk County police as Fahriye Ugan -- was found dead inside the home she shared with her 41-year-old husband on Summersweet Drive in Middle Island just before 9 p.m. Sunday, WCBS 880's Mike Xirinachs reported.

The 41-year-old husband -- identified as Edrem Gulay -- was found with what appeared to be self-inflicted stab wounds, Xirinachs reported.

He was rushed to the hospital and was pronounced dead of his wounds late Monday.

Police said the man's stab wounds appeared to be self-inflicted and there appeared to be a smell of natural gas, Xirinachs reported. Authorities stopped calling the incident of a murder-suicide attempt, saying they wanted first to interview Gulay in the hospital.

Authorities confirmed they have been called to the house in the past for verbal quarrels.

The investigation was ongoing late Monday. Anyone with information on the incident was asked to call Suffolk County police Homicide Squad detectives at (631) 852-6392.
