Search Underway For Driver Of SUV In Deadly Tremont Hit-And-Run
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NYPD has released new surveillance footage in a deadly hit-and-run that took place in the Bronx on Sunday.
Jose Contreras, 63, was crossing Webster Ave near the entrance ramp to the Cross Bronx Expressway when he was struck by a black SUV.
Upon arrival police noticed that Contreras had suffered severe trauma. He was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The SUV, described as a 2001-2006 gray suburban Cadillac Escalade, fled south on the Cross Bronx Expressway.
Surveillance footage shows the vehicle making a right turn from Park Avenue onto Ittner Place just before the deadly collision.
CBS2's Steve Langford reported at the time, Contreras was at a family birthday party at a catering hall before he was killed.
Contreras' son found his father.
"He turned to walk back toward the hall and it happened while he was crossing the street back," Joseph Contreras told CBS2.
