New Hampshire Newspaper That Endorsed Christie Says 'Boy, Were We Wrong'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- New Hampshire's largest newspaper said it made a mistake endorsing former Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie.

"Boy, were we wrong," Joseph McQuaid, the New Hampshire Union Leader's publisher, wrote in an editorial following Christie's endorsement of Donald Trump.

The paper endorsed the New Jersey governor in November, but McQuaid wrote they made a "bad choice."

"Rather than standing up to the bully, Christie bent his knee. In doing so, he rejected the very principles of his campaign that attracted our support," McQuaid says in the editorial.

Christie dropped out of the Republican presidential race following last month's New Hampshire primary after failing to break out from a field in which non-traditional candidates are making strides.

Christie had banked his campaign on a strong finish in New Hampshire, but placed sixth despite having spent more than 70 days campaigning in the state.

Christie endorsed Trump last Friday, saying he "will do what needs to be done to protect the American people."
