Light Snow Slows Morning Commute Around Tri-State Area

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Light snow slowed the morning commute in parts of the Tri-State area.

The snow made for slippery roads and a slushy commute in parts of New Jersey, where several inches of snow fell.

Mostly grassy and elevated surfaces got snow that sticks, making work relatively painless for road crews both on the highways across the Tri-State area and DPW crews on local streets.

"Pretty light this morning not bad at all, roads seem pretty good," one worker told CBS2's Janelle Burrell.

Many are hoping that this will be the last time they have to use shovels this season.

At Marc Gellar's hardware store on Main Street in Manasquan, the fertilizer and the grills are already on display.

"Itching for spring, we're getting ready," Gellar said.

Crossing guard Patty Van Sickle said a little bit of slush and cold is a small price to pay for what's coming.

"I'm not complaining... We can put up with this if it's warm next week," she said.

The snow tapered off by the middle of the day.
