"Unlike with Trump, Clinton's critics have focused on one trait in particular, her perceived untrustworthiness," said political science professor Dan Cassino. "Elites have been hitting her on that point for years, and the message seems to have come through."

The poll shows Clinton holds a commanding lead over Trump among voters in the Garden State, with the former secretary of state besting the real estate mogul by a 52 to 36 margin.

Clinton's challenger Bernie Sanders would also hold up well against Trump. When asked if the presidential election were held today, 51 percent of voters said they'd go with Sanders, while 36 percent said they'd pick Trump.
