Kim Kardashian's Nude Selfie Prompts Challenge From Bette Midler

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Celebrities have been stripping down and baring it all on social media. A naked selfie of Kim Kardashian has stirred heated controversy, and inspired others to do the same.

Kardashian took to Twitter on Monday and wrote "when you're like 'I have nothing to wear LOL."

As CBS2's Jill Nicolini reported, she said the post empowered her.

Bette Midler fired back and said "if you want to see something that we've never seen before then you need to swallow the camera," which Kim didn't take well.

After a heated exchange took place, Midler decided to post her own version of a naked selfie, and challenged Kardashian with the power of donation.

"Bette wanted Kim to use hers to raise money for her charity which rebuilds auditoriums for kids and she said for every dollar Kim raises she'll match it with two dollars," Entertainment Tonight's Kevin Frazier explained, "There are people I think that are getting tired of the fact that the Kardashians constantly push the envelope. Pink was one of the first ones and the most vocal about it saying, 'stop objectifying yourself, you don't need this.'"

Some celebrities, like Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, and Amber Rose have come out to support Kardashian.

The Talk co-host Sharon Osbourne decided to take the challenge by posting her own naked selfie.

"I must say I did feel a bit liberated. I did, yes and empowered to the fact this is probably the skinniest I've ever been in my life," Osbourne said.

Co-host Sheryl Underwood may have backed out last minute from sharing her photo, but said she hopes to release hers one day when she is ready.

"I thank Kim Kardashian for doing something so big that she may not even understand the discussion that she truly started," she said.

Kim has not responded to Midler's donation challenge.
