Former All-Pro Offensive Lineman Okung To Visit Giants

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Now with a defense loaded with stars, it appears the Giants have shifted their free agency focus to their offense, which is already pretty good.

According to various reports, Big Blue was scheduled to meet Friday with veteran offensive tackle Russell Okung, who has played the last six seasons with the Seattle Seahawks.

New York's pass protection was good last season as Eli Manning was sacked only 27 times, but the veteran quarterback makes this high-powered offense go. So, putting more experienced linemen around him appears to be a priority.

Okung, who made the Pro Bowl in 2012, certainly fits that description, but has had issues with injuries in the past. The former No. 6 overall pick out of Oklahoma State in 2010 has started 72 of 96 regular season games. He was knocked out of the Seahawks' playoff loss to the Carolina Panthers in January with a dislocated left shoulder and is currently still rehabbing.

With the Giants pretty much set on the left side of their line with tackle Ereck Flowers and guard Justin Pugh, Okung, who is listed at 6-foot-5 and 310 pounds, could be asked to play on the right side, where New York is still trying to sort things out.

Currently representing himself in free agency, Okung is expected to visit the Detroit Lions after meeting with the Giants.
