Giants Strike Again, Sign Ex-Redskins LB Keenan Robinson

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Giants have added a potential fourth new starter to their defense.

New York signed free agent middle linebacker Keenan Robinson on Thursday night, according to multiple reports. The 26-year-old spent his first four seasons with the Washington Redskins. His one-year deal with the Giants is reportedly worth up to $3.5 million.

Robinson played in 12 games and started eight last season. He had 63 tackles and an interception. His best season came in 2014, when he started all 13 games he played in and registered 109 tackles, 1.5 sacks and an interception.

He missed all of the 2013 season with a torn pectoral muscle and played sparingly during his rookie season. He was selected in the fourth round of the 2012 draft out of Texas.

The Giants needed help at middle linebacker after Jon Beason retired last month. Jasper Brinkley, who started nine games in 2015, is a free agent.

Robinson joins defensive end Olivier Vernon, defensive tackle Damon Harrison and cornerback Janoris Jenkins as new faces joining the Giants defense via free agency. Big Blue also re-signed free agent defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul. The total value of those four contracts surpassed $204 million.

The Giants, who entered free agency more than $56 million under the salary cap, ranked last in the NFL in defense in 2015, allowing 420.3 yards per game.
