Follow The Right Advice And Filling Out Your March Madness Bracket Will Be A Layup

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- March Madness has arrived, and the field is set, now all that's left to do is pick the perfect bracket.

You don't need to agonize over every pick, all you need is a little strategy to win the office pool, CBS2's Steve Overmyer explained.

Nothing is more rewarding than picking the winning bracket in your office, and many New Yorkers have rules that they pick by.

"Root for the team where you went to school," Jenny Gandhi said.

"Whatever team sounds good," Mariel Householder said.

There are some hard and fast rules too. First and foremost, never pick a 16 to upset a 1 seed.

Riley Shipman disagreed.

"I like Hampton here because I don't like Virginia," she said.

If you like upsets, last year every 12 seed pulled off an upset.

"You're always gonna look for a 5-12 upset, here's your upset," Tim Phillips said, "They (Yale) crushed the Ivy League."

It takes six wins to grab the title, so look for teams who came in confident.

"Seton Hall. They won the Big East," Ferris Farouki said.

New Yorkers on the street picked a Final Four that consists of Maryland, Oklahoma, Kentucky, and Michigan State.

When picking a champion it's a good idea to lean on successful coaches, but you could also go with your gut.

"I'm from Sparta so I'm going Michigan State," Householder said.
