NYPD Busts $2.6 Million Worth Of Counterfeit Apple Watches, Beats Headphones

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP)-- The NYPD this week seized about $2.6 million worth of counterfeit goods, including fake Apple watches and Beats music headphones.

Inspector John Denesopolis says the goods were shipped from China and arrived abroad a ship to Newark.

The container with the fake products was picked up and sent to a storage facility, where police arrested 28-year-old Minijan Hu Tuesday.

Police said the authentic products were sent without labels and Hu would put brand names on them. They say he would sell the inferior products online and at flea markets. The watches couldn't be registered with Apple.

Police believe the shipments came twice a year from China beginning in 2014. Cops began investigating after a tip from Homeland Security.

Hu and three others were arrested on trademark counterfeiting charges.
