Con Edison Helps Manhattan Mom Find Bracelet That Fell Down Sidewalk Grating

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Con Edison workers have brightened one Manhattan mom's day.

Meira Cohen-Hansford, of Tribeca, feared her bracelet was lost for good when it fell down a sidewalk grating Wednesday.

Hansford was picking up her 4-year-old son from school on Spruce Street when the rose gold diamond bracelet got caught on her stroller, slipped off her wrist and fell down into the muck below.

"The bracelet got stuck, and I watched it," Hansford said. "There was nothing I could do, I just saw it falling."

She said the sentimental value of the bracelet is much more significant than the price tag. It was given to her by her husband.

Her son told her to call 311, and when that didn't work she called Con Ed, which came to her rescue.

Mechanic Scott Robson and his partner went down below to find the bracelet.

"They're not really the cleanest places -- a lot of debris, garbage, leaves, wrappers, cockroaches," Robson said.

The workers found the bracelet after a 20-minute search and returned it to Hansford on Thursday.

"We're happy she's happy," Robson said.

Hansford said although she's Jewish, she thinks she had the luck of the Irish on this St. Patrick's Day.

She plans to celebrate her good luck by having a beer with her husband.
