Teen Lounge At Sloan Kettering Opens With Donation From Roger Daltrey And Pete Townshend

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The 14th floor of Memorial Sloan Kettering has a new lounge for cancer patients, but it has an age requirement.

Only teenagers are allowed.

Memorial Sloan Kettering treats an average of 650 patients between the ages of 16 and 26 at any given time.

"They're too old to be children, they're too young to be adults and treated as adults, so they're completely isolated," Roger Daltrey of The Who told 1010 WINS' Al Jones.

That's why Daltrey and Pete Townshend donated $1-million for the teen cancer lounge.

The lounge features craft and work space, furniture, and a communal snack bar.

It's the tenth in the country, and Daltrey said there are plenty more to come.

"We will raise the money, some way or another we will do it. You Americans I know can be very, very generous," Daltrey said.

It started with a signed guitar sold on the spot for $10,000.
