Stony Brook Fans Stand Tall Despite Blowout Loss To Kentucky

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It didn't matter what the final score was Thursday night, Stony Brook fans had reason to cheer.

Even though Kentucky crushed Stony Brook 85-57, as CBS2's Brian Conybeare reported, that didn't dampen the spirits of more than 200 fans at Suite 36 sports bar in Midtown.

"Finally! We are finally here at the big game, the big dance. We're dancing! It's super exciting! Kaitlyn Gallagher told CBS2.

The Seawolves made the NCAA Tournament for the first time, but had to face the perennial powerhouse Kentucky Wildcats in the first-round.

"We're not just content being here. We want to win the game and eventually, I think, where the type of school that will probably win it all one day. I truly believe that," J.R. Fonvil told CBS2.

Stony Brook had a storybook season, winning their conference championship to advance to the tournament as a 13th seed. But in the end, midnight struck early for the Seawolves.

"This is an awesome opportunity for us. Stony Brook has come so far, we are a school about pride and grit," one fan said.

Kentucky moves on to face Indiana in the second round.
