Police Search For Yellow Cab Driver In Fatal Manhattan Hit And Run

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are searching for the driver of a yellow cab who struck and killed a woman in Manhattan early Saturday morning.

Investigators say Kenya Flores, 44, of the Bronx, was already lying on the ground when the cab hit her on First Avenue and East 17th Street in Gramercy Park at around 4 a.m.

After the cab struck the woman, the driver took off, police said.

The woman died at Bellevue Hospital, according to police.

People who live and work in the area say the streets can get congested during daytime hours -- but in the middle of the night, it's a different story, 1010 WINS' Samantha Liebman reported.

"You really can't stop your car when you're riding up First Avenue -- it's like a speedway sometimes," Bobby, a resident, said.

The investigation is ongoing.
