Spring Snowstorm Brings Slippery Roads, Not Much Accumulation Across Tri-State

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A snowstorm that moved in on the first day of spring left slippery roads but not much accumulation Monday morning as many residents took the snowy start to the season in stride.

The snow stayed mostly on vehicles and grass while drivers found that treated road surfaces were clear during the morning rush.

In residential areas, many woke up having to clean off their cars, but not their driveways.

"A little slow, but OK," school bus driver Delores Simmons told CBS2's Janelle Burrell. "It's doesn't bother me cause I know March can be tricky."

Islip and points further east on Long Island got the most snow overnight.

But a few inches of wet snow wasn't enough to stop Bryan Dungate, who was off to hit the water with his surfboard Monday morning.

"It's the best time to go," he said. "The only thing that gets cold is your face, but you're so filled with adrenaline, it doesn't even matter."

At the Oconee Diner, the Easter decorations were dusted in a coating of snow.

"Well I think it's crazy, but then again we've had it in April," said waitress Ruth Nunziato.

And Rick Rizzo's lawn mowers won't be getting used Monday, but he doesn't mind.

"It's beautiful, I love it," he said. "I enjoy the snow, couldn't ask for anything more. "

But with a warmup on the way,  most of the snow will be gone by the end of the week.
