Man Killed In Police-Involved Shooting In Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A man has been shot and killed in Stamford by police who were responding to a report of a disturbance.

Police were responding to a call that a man with a gun was threatening harm at a home on Wedgemere road in Stamford, WCBS 880's Fran Schneidau reported.

Dylan Pape, 25, was rushed to Stamford Hospital where he later died.

Police Chief Jon Fontneau said the man who was shot had what appeared to be a handgun. Additional details of the shooting were not immediately available.  

According to Fontneau, Pape was shot by two officers who were part of a SWAT team responding to the call about an hour after the call for help was placed.

"Today is a sad day in our community," Stamford Mayor David Martin said in a statement. "Any loss of life, no matter the circumstance, is tragic for all involved. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and our police officers.

Detectives from the state police responded to the scene and have taken over the investigation.
