23-Year-Old Man Charged In Deaths Of Grandparents Killed In Crash While Returning From Easter Egg Hunt

READINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Prosecutors say a man driving under the influence caused a head-on crash that killed an elderly couple that was returning home with family members from an Easter egg hunt.

The Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office said in a statement 23-year-old Frank Cabezas, of Whitehouse Station, has been charged with two counts of second degree death by auto, three counts of fourth degree assault by auto, reckless driving and driving under the influence.

Around 2:45 p.m., Gregory Corso, 43, his two children and the children's grandparents, 79-year-old Frank and 75-year-old Audrey Corso, were in a Toyota Camry that was struck head-on by Cabezas' Ford Explorer as it traveled along Route 523 just south of Woodchurch Road, according to the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office.

"I saw the accident in the road right in front of the house I knew it was pretty bad... you could just tell, especially by the white car," witness Lee Opperman told CBS2's Brian Conybeare.

Frank and Audrey Corso were both killed, while Gregory Corso suffered minor injuries, the prosecutor's office said. Ten-year-old Marissa Corso was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick with a possible broken femur, and her 5-year-old brother Matthew was in a booster seat and was not injured.

"They were always so nice to everybody, I would see them out walking all the time. I'd see their family over there," Carol Gaibor, a neighbor of the victims, said.

The family was returning from an Easter egg hunt at the time, police said.

"This is a terrible tragedy that changed the lives of this family in a split second as they returned home from an Easter egg hunt. We offer our sincerest condolences to the Corso family," Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns III said in a statement.

Cabeza wasn't injured and police sources confirm this isn't his first time in trouble. He was busted for driving drunk in his underwear in 2012 and hit with drug charges in the past.

Cabezas is being held on $250,000 bail and was placed in the Somerset County Jail awaiting his first court appearance. He faces multiple charges including driving under the influence and death by automobile.
