FULTON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- An upstate New York nurse who was convicted of snapping a photo of an unconscious patient's penis with her phone last year has surrendered her medical license.

Kristen Johnson agreed to surrender her license after pleading guilty to misdemeanor disseminating of unlawful surveillance photos, CBS affiliate WRGB-TV, Albany reported. She was a practicing nurse at Upstate University Hospital at the time.

The conviction was the result of a nine-month investigation following complaints from her co-workers that she sent pictures of two patients via text message, the station reported.

Johnson was originally charged with two counts of second-degree unlawful surveillance and one count of second-degree disseminating unlawful surveillance, but the felony charge was reduced as part of a plea deal, the station reported.

Johnson was ordered three years of probation.
