Some Officials Oppose Increasing Flights From Westchester County Airport
GREENWICH, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- The Greenwich Board of Selectmen is speaking out about its opposition to more flights coming in and out of Westchester County Airport.
It's been a longstanding concern among some folks in Greenwich, where the airport is located just over the state line.
They worry about noise and air pollution and have safety concerns, WCBS 880's Sean Adams reported. A proposed change in airport operations raised a red flag after there have been limits for about three decades.
Close to 500 passengers come and go every half hour, keeping a relatively even distribution throughout the day. Westchester County wants to change that to a daily limit of 11,520 in each direction, pretty much the same number but it could mean more flights during peak periods and possible overnight flights, which are now banned.
Greenwich and Rye Brook are looking for further review of the proposed changes.
