TSA Says Lack Of PreCheck Enrollments Has Led To Longer Security Lines
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Not enough people have enrolled in the Transportation Security Administration expedited screening program, leading to long security lines at airports.
Frustrated passengers have said the extra-long lines are causing them to miss their flights.
The TSA had hoped 25 million people would sign up for its PreCheck program, but only about 9 million have done it so far.
With that in mind, Congress cut more than 4,600 TSA screeners, leaving the agency scrambling.
"I'm convinced that we can improve the process, we can improve efficiency, we can still meet our effectiveness targets, and we can improve the passenger experience," said Peter Neffenger of the TSA.
The TSA has been shifting some resources to tackle lines of the nation's biggest airports, including using dogs to sniff bags and help lines move faster.
