Police: Suspect Arrested In Robbery Of 103-Year-Old Bronx Woman
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A woman who police said robbed a 103-year-old woman in the Bronx has been arrested as the centenarian vowed the attack won't change how she lives her life.
Sharon McNeil, 53, was charged Saturday with robbery, assault and harassment, police said. She was arraigned Sunday and is being held on $100,000 bail.
The incident happened Friday afternoon, CBS2's Dave Carlin reported.
Louise Signore was on her way home from a local community center with two meals when police said a woman followed her into her building on Bellamy Loop.
Police said the suspect followed Signore onto the elevator and up to her floor. In the hallway, police said the suspect knocked her down, stealing her purse and a shopping cart with the two meals, CBS2's Dave Carlin reported.
"What did she want? What did she get, $35 and a couple of meals? But she took my magnifying glass, that's important for me," Signore told 1010 WINS' Roger Stern.
The suspect then fled the scene, but was seen on surveillance video, police said.
Signore, who is less than 5-feet-tall and legally blind, refused medical attention. She lives on her own and said despite her bumps and bruises, she's otherwise OK.
She said she is going to keep walking to the community center.
"I'm still shaking, but it's not going to stop me from going out," she said. "I'll go out."
Signore said police are replacing her magnifying glass.
Neighbors are now offering to accompany Signore on her walks outside.
