Race Heats Up Ahead Of Tuesday's Primary In Wisconsin
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork)-- Candidates were crisscrossing Wisconsin Saturday ahead of Tuesday's primary.
For Republican front-runner Donald Trump, losing in the badger state would make it harder to clinch the party's nomination.
Trump took on criticism this week for his comments on abortion, CBS2's Cindy Hsu reported. In an interview set to air Sunday on "Face the Nation," Trump said he's not ready to change abortion laws.
"The laws are set. And I think we have to leave it that way," he said.
According to the latest poll, Ted Cruz is leading the GOP race with a 10-point margin.
"Nominating Donald Trump would be a trainwreck. And that's not fair to the trainwrecks," Cruz said.
Wisconsin has 42 Republican delegates up for grabs, and even if Cruz were to win the primary it still wouldn't be enough to keep an open convention from happening.
"We're going to go to an open convention, there's no question," presidential candidate Gov. John Kasich said. "I can't win enough to get to the convention with enough delegates and neither can Cruz... And Donald Trump would have to win, you know, probably better than 60 percent and as you know, he's never got anywhere close to that."
On the Democratic side, 86 delegates are at stake and the race is starting to get ugly, with protesters disrupting Clinton at a recent event.
"She wins, we lose!" protesters chanted.
"Oh, I know the Bernie people came to say that, we're very sorry you're leaving," Clinton said.
The latest polling shows Sanders with a narrow lead over Clinton. That's good news for the Sanders campaign after winning five of the latest six contests; Idaho, Utah, Alaska, Hawaii, and Washington.
"There have been some concerns to whether or not Bernie Sanders can win in a general election," Sanders told supporters. "The last poll I saw here in Wisconsin in your state had us 19 points ahead of Donald Trump."
Overall, Clinton is still ahead in the total delegate count.
