Caught On Video: Tree Falls On Road, Snags Pickup Truck Amid Blasting Winds In Boonton

BOONTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police in Boonton Township, New Jersey released a video of an enormous tree falling onto a road, and snagging a pickup truck, as dangerous winds blew over the weekend.

Just before 8 a.m. Sunday, Boonton Township police Sgt. Andrew Tintle was driving east on Rockaway Valley Road responding to a call for service, police said.

As he was driving, the tree snapped and came down over the entire road. Tintle's squad car dashcam video shows the moment the tree fell.

Tintle was able to maneuver his car away from the main part of the tree trunk to avoid a serious collision. But a Chevrolet pickup truck ended up partially upright on top of the fallen tree after briefly going airborne, police said.

Neither Tintle nor the pickup truck driver was injured.

Powerful winds toppled trees and caused damage around the area Sunday.

In New York City, about 108 trees came down in Brooklyn, 100 in Queens, 72 on Staten Island and 40 in the Bronx. Manhattan also had a handful of fallen trees.

Numerous trees also fell and caused damage elsewhere in New Jersey, including Newark and Raritan.

On Monday, gloomy, cold rain dominated the area – but when Tuesday comes around, some might be looking back on rain and the 40s fondly.

Winter weather advisories were in effect for parts of New Jersey and Connecticut until 6 p.m. Monday.

A freeze warning is also in effect from 8 p.m. Monday until 10 a.m. Tuesday for New York City, parts of Long Island and Westchester County as well as parts of New Jersey and Connecticut.

CHECK: Forecast & Alerts

Overnight, the lows will drop below freezing for everyone – 27 in New York City; Merrick, Long Island; and Bridgeport, Connecticut; 29 in the Oranges in New Jersey, and a cold-even-for-January 15 in Liberty.

The wind chill will make it feel like 10 to 20 degrees in most to the area, and as low as 5 below to the north and west.
