Ned Yost Says Royals Celebrating While Mets Watched Was 'Awkward'

Bryan Altman

After losing the 2015 World Series in the most heartbreaking fashion imaginable to the Kansas City Royals, the Mets had 153 days to think about how it all ended. Eric Hosmer's mad dash toward home, Lucas Duda's errant throw, Daniel Murphy's costly error -- plays that the Mets have undoubtedly had tattooed into their minds since their season ended in the early hours of Nov. 2.

Plays the Mets and their fans would love to never have to see again.

Last night, the Mets not only had to relive those and other horrors from the conclusion of last season, but they had to do it in front of the team that bested them as nearly 40,000-plus screaming Royals fans cheered them on.

It was likely a little bit awkward and uncomfortable for the Mets, but surprisingly, it wasn't exactly an enjoyable experience for the Royals, either.

"It was just strange, the pregame ceremony," Yost told reporters after the Royals' 4-3 win over the Mets. "I think I would have enjoyed it more if we played another team. For them to relive that, it's a little awkward."

To say the least.

Still, the Royals earned their victory and the Mets stood on the field and took it all in stride.

Perhaps this year the Mets will be lucky enough to hoist a banner at Citi Field and suffer the same "awkwardness" that Yost and the Royals felt on Sunday night.

Bryan Altman is, for some reason, an unabashed fan of the Rangers, Jets and Mets. If he absolutely had to pick a basketball team it would be the Knicks, but he'd gladly trade them for just one championship for any of his other three teams.
