Mike Francesa: Resting Starters Has Become A 'Very Big Issue' For NBA

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors are set to square off two of the next four nights.

It should be an exciting time for NBA fans. There's only problem: The Spurs might do what they so often do by sitting some of their key players to help ensure they're healthy and strong for the playoffs.

With other teams beginning to mimic the Spurs' strategy, the NBA has "a very big issue" on its hands, WFAN's Mike Francesa said on his show Thursday.

"Dampening tonight's game is the question of exactly how seriously San Antonio's head coach will play this game and whether he will tonight rest (Tony) Parker, (Manu) Ginobili and Tim Duncan. What is the NBA going to do when you have a game that you want America to zero in on tonight in the regular season when San Antonio might sit their whole starting lineup out and turn the game into a scrimmage?"

Francesa said he knows it's a long NBA season and coaches are judged by how their teams perform in the postseason.

"But San Antonio has now created a model that is followed all over the league where they feel it is OK to charge bust-out prices and then just not even have your stars show up in the building," Francesa said. "This doesn't happen now once in a while. If you look at NBA games, you have to check every night to make sure the team is playing their star players."
