NJ Man Stole $42,000 From Armored Truck While Working As Guard, Police Say

FAIRFIELD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- New Jersey police have arrested a man who allegedly stole a bag of money containing $42,000 while working as a guard for an armored truck company.

In June 2015, Ishmail Pointdexter, 29, of Newark, was working as a guard for the armored truck company Garda at their location in Fairfield when he was sent on assignment to help transfer money from another location in Edison, police said. During that transaction, an extra bag of money containing $42,000 was placed on the truck, according to police.

After the error was discovered, the Edison location reached out to Fairfield and it was realized that the bag was unaccounted for. Investigators at the Fairfield location later recovered the bag -- which was empty -- behind a secret wall in the cargo truck Pointdexter was operating at the time of the bag's disappearance, police said.

A review of video surveillance of that day warranted theft charges, which were linked in connection to Pointdexter, police said.

Pointdexter surrendered on April 7, police said.

He is expected back in court on April 13.
