NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The day has finally arrived.

It's free cone day at Ben & Jerry's!

The company will be scooping out free ice cream from noon to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday.

Just head over to your local Ben & Jerry's scoop shop for a free cone of ice cream, frozen yogurt or sorbet.

The company started free cone day in 1979 in a renovated gas station in Burlington, Vermont.

Now it's celebrated at its stores located all across the globe.

Last year, the company gave out more than 1 million scoops on free cone day.
