Experts Say April Is The Time To Score Big Deals At Clothing Stores, Restaurants And More

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork)-- Though sunny skies and flowers might be the first thing that comes to mind for many when thinking of April, perhaps deals should be added to that list.

The month of April offers good deals and even freebies on necessities and luxuries, CBS2's Vanessa Murdock reported.

"Spring clothing comes out in February and that starts getting discounted two months later. We are now in that time period," expert Vera Gibbons said.

Look for 40 percent off light jacked, sweaters, and dresses. If you stack coupons, you can cut the cost even more for that spring stunner.

"This is the time for the tax freebies," Gibbons said.

Tax Day is on Monday, April 18. The real freebies are going to be at restaurants where you might be able to score a free side order, or a free dessert with an entree at some places.

Hard Rock Cafe said if you sing out loud at at the Times Square location between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Monday you can get a free legendary burger.

You can also get great deals on travel right now. With spring break wrapping up, it's the slow season for many airlines.

"Discounts are being rolled out, it's a really great time in particular to take a cruise," Gibbons said.

But experts say to not wait too long to book or travel because once we hit Memorial Day, travel prices go up.

Want to list your home? Nationally, May is the best month to do it, but in Manhattan April is best.

"They looked at supply demand and the sales outcome and found you're going to get the biggest amount of money in the least amount of time," Gibbons said.

If you live in Brooklyn or the Bronx, March proved to be the best time to list. For Queens residents, May has the best results.
