Francesa: Perceptions And Reality Don't Align For Rangers, Yankees, Mets

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Mike Francesa opened his show Friday discussing the "perceptions" and "realities" of three of the city's teams.

"The story right now is really about what the perceptions are and what the realities are for these teams," the WFAN host said. "For the Rangers, what's left in this team that has had the playoff runs, the success, the expectations that it's carried the last couple of years after an awful performance last night and on the brink of just being blown away by a better team?"

As for the Yankees (5-9), "let's be honest, except for two games and a couple of performances by (Andrew) Miller and (Dellin) Betances, this Yankee team has been outright awful so far this year," he said.

"Teams can get old and disintegrate in front of your eyes. They can do that. I've seen it happen before. And they can have years where they never get started."

Meanwhile, Matt Harvey, the Mets' supposed ace, has not lived up to the billing, Francesa said.

"Harvey gets a start tonight in Atlanta. He has been bad so far this year. His numbers have been borderline alarming so far this year," Francesa said. "Now, his performances have shown some power and some dominance inside. There's been a sneaky good part to each of the performances. But there's also been a terrible part to each of the performances. ... You're not seeing anything of what you're used to seeing from Harvey. You need to see that starting now."
