Girl, 11, Found After Allegedly Taken By Mother In Queens

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An 11-year-old girl was reunited with family in New Jersey late Friday after her non-custodial mother allegedly took her in Queens.

New York State Police had issued the alert after Shyia Andrews. She had last been seen at 8:30 a.m. Friday, state police said. The alert was canceled at 9:40 p.m.

The girl was reunited with family in New Jersey, 1010 WINS reported. Further details were not immediately available.

Shiya allegedly had been with her non-custodial mother, Saraleathia Mckenzie, 39, leaving a home on Jewel Avenue in Queens at the time, state police said.

NYPD sources told CBS2 they'd had reason to believe the girl and her mother were in Lower Manhattan and launched a mobilization there.

There had been no reason to believe the child was in danger, but her mother was not authorized to have custody for reasons that were not immediately learned, sources said.
